Bushey Advisors was engaged by an International Bank to take a review of its Data Centre installations with a view to consolidation and reducing the running costs of the installed estate. The Bushey Advisors undertook a review of its 12 Data Centres in 6 countries to include the IT infrastructure, applications, and business data.
Aligning the technology implementations with the need to maintain jurisdiction compliance required the team to review and validate the client's IT Services and Applications Catalogue for the region. Through the paper collection of site installations and costs, the Bushey Advisors worked with the Regional Technology Team in Hong Kong to understand the services delivered by all Data Centres, including the infrastructure used.
After analysing the data provided, the Bushey Advisors developed a cost analysis which showed the various savings that could be made by location. The Bushey Advisors presented its findings and recommendations with a proposed saving of USD 15 million across a five-year project.

BUILD THE CASE FOR TRANSFORMATIONThe Client was considering a regional consolidation of its IT Services across its offices within the Asia Pacific region. The Bushey Advisors were initially appointed to develop a high-level Digital Transformation Strategy which was endorsed by the Regional Senior Management. The Bushey Advisors was subsequently retained to continue with the development of a detailed Transformation Business Case that focused on consolidating the existing IT Services hosted within the in-country Data Centres that included Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan, into two new APAC regional hubs, one located in each of Hong Kong and Singapore.
UNLOCK VALUE FROM EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE The Bank operated 12 outsourced Data Centres across the region. With many technology platforms approaching end of life, the upcoming technology refresh created an opportunity to consolidate systems and services under a new regional architecture aligned to the Client's global IT strategy of transitioning to a utility-based IT infrastructure model delivered through Regional Data Centres.
How Bushey solved it
DUE DILIGENCE Bushey Advisors undertook a detailed due diligence audit across six country locations covering current and future applications, IT services and Data Centre facilities to provide a comprehensive assessment of the existing environment.
DATA ANALYSISThe Bushey team worked with the Bank’s Technical Team to identify transformation opportunities, budgets and cost savings across the five-year transformation period. The regional analysis identified opportunities to reduce costs, improve resilience and strengthen disaster recovery through a consolidated storage platform and effective replication across two Regional Data Centres.
BUSINESS CASE Bushey Advisors developed a Business Case that categorised savings opportunities by execution complexity (High, Medium and Low). Working with Bank stakeholders, the team agreed the implementation approach and identified a target savings figure.
REPORTING AND PRESENTATION Bushey Advisors collated the project data into comprehensive stakeholder and executive summary packs. The findings were delivered to the Global CIO during a visit in Hong Kong, who endorsed the proposed savings and approved procedures to ensure consistent management.
STRATEGY DEVELOPMENTThe team developed a regional strategy that identified current costs, service improvement opportunities, and cost savings through consolidation and the implementation of standardised application solutions.
